Reading Scripts and Practicing Dips

Aug 11, 2024

Getting into the long run covering Rogue Swan’s Sweeney Todd from first rehearsal through the final performance. Every time it starts off slow – a lot of time is spent standing around group-reading scripts – a lot of huirried pencil work making more individually focused notes. So the first rehearsals offer few camera-worthy opportunities. But things will pick up very fast. Add to that that there is a lot less in the way of vaudeville-style action. Already working on some interesting stuff from yesterday – these are the last ttwo images from the last time out. The intro shot shows Matt and Allie, two members of the “ensemble” getting down their dance “dip”. At one point the whole ensemble retreated to the far end of the room to get the coordination down…

Darn, I gotta get all these new names down – the trick is showing them. to Nan and relying of her to remind me. The second shot here is of Katie leading the “ensemble” in a script read to set reactions, responses. Katie is fum to watch choreographing (herding cats) a group of performers…

SWEENEY TODD is presented through special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
