Sweeney Todd Sneak Peeks, Slow-Choreographing Chaos & Dance Script Reading…

Aug 19, 2024

It’s always interesting to watch Katie begin choreographing a complicated dance or seemingly chaotic scene. You get to see it in slow-motion, albeit in a much more restricted space. It’s amazing how much work goes into making a scene like that work on stage. The intor shot shows a half dozen of the citizenry in Sweeney Todd in their first slow/rough run-thru of such a moment.

Below is James and Katie – Sweeney and Mrs. Lovett – having an impactful conversation while doing a short waltz near the end of the show. A little awkward while following the script… It contains instructions as to positioning, expression, etc.

I’m so used to shooting Rogue’s musicals and vaudevilles that all this concentration on dialog has me working harder for fun shots. I do still have a couple more I’m working on, then to the next big rehearsal.
